"A" badge
The "A" badge belongs to the earliest controlled steps in glider training. It marks basic handling, launch discipline and a first recognizable move from instruction toward independent flying.
Gliding badges turn training progress and cross-country achievements into a visible record. This page keeps the main levels clear without becoming a rulebook.
The "A" badge belongs to the earliest controlled steps in glider training. It marks basic handling, launch discipline and a first recognizable move from instruction toward independent flying.
The "B" badge follows with more repeatable control and confidence. Exact national requirements vary, but the badge traditionally signals that the pilot is building stable habits, not just completing isolated flights.
The "C" badge is the first classic soaring milestone. It is associated with staying airborne for a meaningful period and making the shift from simple flight execution toward using rising air.
The Silver badge is the classic entry into internationally recognized gliding achievements: 50 km distance, 5 hours duration and 1000 m gain of height. The parts usually do not need to be completed in one flight.
Gold keeps the 5 hour duration element and raises the performance level to 300 km distance and 3000 m gain of height. It represents serious cross-country capability rather than basic endurance alone.
The Diamond badge is built from three demanding achievements: a 300 km declared-goal flight, a 500 km distance flight and a 5000 m height gain. Completing all three is one of gliding's most respected badge milestones.
Beyond Diamond, distance diplomas start at 750 km. These awards belong to the long-distance culture of gliding: weather reading, patience, route planning and disciplined execution over a full day.
The 1000 km diploma recognizes a truly exceptional cross-country flight. It normally demands excellent conditions, precise timing and a pilot who can keep tactical decisions sharp for many hours.
The 1250 km diploma sits in the higher end of long-distance recognition. It is a badge of planning depth, meteorological judgment and sustained performance across a very large task.
The shop collection translates these milestones into physical badges for pilots, clubs and federations.
